Presidents’ Day
Presidents’ Day is the third Monday in February because of the Uniform Holiday Act of 1971. The Uniform Holiday Act made holidays on Mondays to create long holiday weekends. The first Presidents’ Day was in 1885 and declared by Rutherford B. Hayes to honor President George Washington’s birthday, February 22. In 1971 President Nixon and Congress made it part of the Uniform Holiday Act.
