Despite Taos County Bureau of Elections reporting to Questa del Rio News that the Cisneros votes would be certified on November 15, as of press time, the New Mexico Secretary of State website still has the vote counts listed as “unofficial.”
As we write this article, Questa Independent School District Board Member Juan Cisneros holds 45 percent of the vote while Board Vice-President Esequiel Romero holds 41 percent, and challenging candidate Jason Gonzalez holds 14 percent.
Prior to the election, Cisneros told Questa del Rio News that he would continue to focus on improving and upgrading school infrastructure, including playground equipment, sports fields, outdoor learning spaces, and an auxiliary gymnasium for the high school.
Cisneros also strongly believes in parents̕ right to be informed of what their children are being taught within the district and hopes to improve communication between parents and staff.
Board Vice-President Romero told Questa del Rio News that he will “continue to make a change in the right direction for the student body and staff at the Questa Independent Schools.”
Candidate Gonzalez ran to add some competition to the race. He told Questa del Rio News that had he been elected, he would have liked to focus on improving mental health assistance in the district.
