Rio Fernando Park will mark its 10th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 13, with a daylong celebration highlighting the community-built park’s natural beauty and educational programs. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 410 La Posta Road.
Built by and for the community, the park spans wetlands, agricultural fields, and trails framed by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Over the past decade, it has become a hub for learning, recreation, and conservation.
The anniversary celebration will feature talks and workshops on soil health, gardening, and fabric dyeing with native plants. Families can enjoy activities for children, including face painting and hayrides around the park. Live music will add to the festivities, and a free community meal will be served at 3:30 p.m.
“Rio Fernando Park is where community and nature flourish together,” said Darien Fernandez, Executive Director of the Taos Land Trust. “Every day, people walk their dogs, children explore the fairy forest, volunteers tend gardens, and students learn about ecology. The park is alive with people, plants, and wildlife alike.”
Visitors can expect to see bees buzzing around sunflowers, ducks paddling in the river, and butterflies dancing among wildflowers, all amid the whispering cottonwoods and blooming alfalfa.
All are invited to attend the free celebration and join in honoring a decade of community stewardship at Rio Fernando Park.
