ASTROLOGY: April 2023

A YEAR OF TRANSITION

“We need a revolution every 20 years just to keep government honest.”

Thomas Jefferson

At the end of March Pluto shifted from Capricorn – where it has been since January 2008 – into Aquarius. We can all remember the Great Recession of 2008. Capricorn is the sign of business, authority and corporations while Aquarius is about ALL the people, the Big Picture. This combination of a potentially explosive Pluto and the interests of the people often spells Revolution.

The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was 1777 – 1797. During this time America declared its independence from England in 1776 under Pluto in Capricorn. The revolutionary war lasted until 1783; the US Constitution was established in 1787, followed by the Bill of Rights in 1789. The French Revolution started in 1789 with the overthrow of the monarchy, the abolition of the feudal system and the declaration of the “Rights of Man.” The Industrial Revolution was also picking up speed and steam power was revolutionizing transport and the textile industry. The Enlightenment reached its peak with ideas of individualization and rational thought. Catherine the Great on the throne in Russia supported the Enlightenment and instituted many reforms in the arts and sciences for her people.

Pluto is our slowest moving planet and therefore sits in a sign for a very long time, witness the last 15 years. This year we will get just a taste of what it feels like to shift signs because it will retrograde back into Capricorn in June and will finish out the year in that sign. Then it moves forward into Aquarius again in January 2024. At that point it will mostly remain in Aquarius for the next 20 years, with only a quick month in 2024 when it barely retrogrades back again. This is a big reason to feel that we are fully into the Age of Aquarius, since Pluto’s slow movement affects whole generations. After January, everyone born for the next 20 years will have an Aquarian Pluto in their birth charts.
