If you’ve ever been stranded outside a locked car you know how critical it is to find a locksmith who responds quickly and professionally. In small communities like Questa and surrounding areas, the thought of being locked out with no reliable help coming is a nightmare. This is where Enchanted Circle Auto Lock & Key LLC saves the day. Founded by John and Kristy Foster, this 100% mobile locksmith service has been up and running, servicing the Enchanted Circle since January 2025. John and Kristy are dedicated to providing professional help right here in our area, without the long waits and high prices rural residents often face.
Kristy Foster’s connection to Questa is strong; her family has had roots here for generations, and her grandfather, Federico Martinez, was born in the village. Federico is the brother of Gomersindo Martinez (Original owner of Questa Supermarket) and Virgil Martinez (owner of Sangre de Cristo Motel) –both of whom have been a part of Questa’s history for generations. After years of visiting, John and Kristy decided to leave Albuquerque and settle in Questa full-time in 2023. “We love the natural beauty of the mountains and the tranquility of the open skies,” said John, “but the best part of moving to Questa has been meeting and interacting with so many amazing people and becoming a part of this remarkable community.”
With over 30 years in the industrial plumbing industry, John was ready for a change after the move. He quickly noticed a critical need: there was no dedicated, local locksmith in Questa or the surrounding areas. After establishing the business in July 2024 and spending the rest of the year dedicated to training, purchasing equipment, and studying techniques, John officially opened for business in January 2025. Enchanted Circle Auto Lock & Key is a 100% mobile service offering: Emergency Lockouts for vehicles and properties; Automotive Key Services, including car key cutting and programming, and remote/fob replacement; and Residential & Commercial lock replacements and key duplication.
For John, the inspiration for the business came from seeing the struggles faced by people in small, rural communities who often wait unreasonable amounts of time and pay high prices for locksmiths traveling from distant cities. “I established Enchanted Circle Auto Lock & Key LLC here in Questa to provide the members of our community with professional and reliable locksmith services at fair and honest prices,” John explained. “Being 100% mobile means I can come to your home or business when it’s convenient, and I am ready to respond quickly when emergencies occur.”
When asked about the journey of starting a business, John pointed to the incredible local support. “Starting my business did require dedication and lots of hard work—it has been challenging but very rewarding,” he said. He encourages new entrepreneurs to utilize the free local resources available, naming the Questa Business Bridge, the LOR Foundation, and the Questa Economic Development Fund. “It is so amazing to know that your community is behind you and wants to see you succeed!” The Fosters are one of the winners of the recent “Pitch Contest” that took place in August sponsored by the QEDF where entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors who then decide whether to invest their own money in the companies.
The Fosters look forward to continuing to learn and grow and to make connections, with a long-term goal of possibly opening a physical storefront someday. For now, John’s favorite part of the job is connecting with people all over the Enchanted Circle. “I travel all over the Enchanted Circle and I get to enjoy beautiful scenery every day. But the most rewarding aspect is being able to help locals and visitors—it has truly been a blessing for me.”
