KCEC Invites Members To Attend Annual Meeting

Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC) will host its annual meeting Saturday, June 14, at the Taos High School gymnasium, inviting members to reflect on a year of achievements and discuss the future of energy in northern New Mexico.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., followed by the meeting at 9 a.m. All registered KCEC members will receive a $15 credit on their electric bill and be entered into drawings for cash and prizes.

This year’s meeting will highlight the cooperative’s progress on several key initiatives, including wildfire prevention, renewable energy expansion, community outreach and infrastructure improvements.

Each year, the cooperative takes the opportunity to thank its members and update them on efforts to build a more resilient and sustainable energy future.

Among KCEC’s recent initiatives:

  • Forest fire prevention measures have been implemented in response to a drier-than-average winter, which has increased wildfire risk in the region.
  • The cooperative continues to lead in sustainable energy, proudly operating as 100% daytime solar.
  • The Amalia II Solar and Battery Project, an 8.75-megawatt solar-plus-storage facility, is set to begin construction in June and is expected to be completed by December.
  • Microgrid battery projects in Taos Ski Valley, Peñasco and El Rito West will add 7.5 megawatts of distributed battery storage. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and wrap up by June 2026.
  • A Clean Hydrogen Initiative, currently in the planning phase, will bring 104 megawatts of renewable energy from hydrogen, solar and battery systems to northern New Mexico. The project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2028.

KCEC will also recognize the distribution of $47,000 in student scholarships throughout its service territory and its continued support of local events and initiatives.
Through its subsidiaries, Kit Carson Internet has reached 14,500 subscribers, providing high-speed broadband access. Kit Carson Propane continues to serve underserved areas with affordable energy solutions.
The cooperative is also investing in tree trimming, infrastructure upgrades and system reliability improvements to boost safety and keep costs manageable for members.
A complimentary luncheon will be served following the meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with KCEC executives, board members and employees.
