New Kid on the Block: The Enchanted Circle News

Cris Brisbin is the publisher and editor of The Enchanted Circle News, based in Eagle Nest, NM. They published their first issue in May 2022, covering community news and information that proudly represents the villages of the Enchanted Circle—Eagle Nest, Red River, Angel Fire, and Questa—and their surrounding communities.

In her high school days, Cris was on the yearbook staff as a photographer, and in college was a paginator and photographer for the award-winning student newspaper. She went on to win awards in Texas journalism with various publications, especially in the San Antonio area. She also enjoyed being a media instructor for a private school. When she moved to New Mexico full-time in 2011, she worked for the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle in Angel Fire.

“My family has been in the Moreno Valley since 1947. My grandparents honeymooned in Red River in 1927 and fell in love with the Enchanted Circle. They were young college kids from Amarillo and saved up their ‘shoestring money’ and in 1947 started building a cabin in Idlewild during the summers. They finished it in 1954. The next generation used the cabin as a summer respite from the unbearable heat in Texas. I continued in this tradition, knowing that as soon as I could get to the valley ‘full-time’ I would. After my children graduated from high school in 2011, I officially became Bi-State-ual (yes, I have trademarked that word!), and now go back to Texas for family business, and to check on my 90-year-old mother.”

The Questa Del Rio News welcomes this new media outlet to the Enchanted Circle! We know the importance of independent, local journalism and we know its challenges. We are in this together. In the June edition, The Enchanted Circle News printed several Questa news stories and will be featuring monthly columns from our columnists.

This month, we continue to share news stories and will also feature articles from freelance reporter Edward Camp, who is writing for the Enchanted Circle News. Thank you, everyone, for supporting local news from the inside out!

The Questa Del Rio News welcomes Edward Camp to our team. He was a resident of Austin, TX for 20 years and has lived in northern Florida and New Orleans. He has a keen interest in history and language. Edward recently received his Associates degree from UNM-Taos and is a Red River resident. He is launching his career in journalism by writing for our neighboring local monthly newspaper, The Enchanted Circle News, of Eagle Nest. Edward is writing several stories of mutual interest, which we will share with our readers in these pages.
Welcome, Edward!
