Questa Wildcat Young Guns End Season

The young run and gun Questa Wildcats ended their 2025 basketball season Tuesday, February 25, losing to the Mora Rangers 59 to 67.

This season was a learning curve for this young team, having the lone senior Carlos Ortega trying to lead them to wins in their tough district.

Having no juniors on the team was a tough chore for sophomores Jacovo Cardenas, Juan Cisneros, Mathew Vigil, and Isaac Segura; freshmen Urijah Griego, Larry Roybal, Remington Smith, and Lucas Cisneros had to learn quick at the varsity level to compete with the big boys in the district.

Not too many varsity teams in New Mexico start 1 senior, 2 sophomores, and 2 freshmen all year to lead their team to victories; the future is bright for the Questa Wildcats! Shining bright are the five Northern Stars for the month of February; senior Carlos Ortega, sophomore Jacovo Cardenas, and freshman Urijah Griego ran the 3-guard offense for the Wildcats, averaging 35 points for the month of February between them. The big men, sophomore Juan Cisneros and freshman Larry Roybal controlled the glass, and dominated the front court for the Wildcats this past month.

Congratulations to these five Northern Stars helping the Wildcats stay in contention during district play; ending the season Tuesday night in Mora. We would like to congratulate Coach Michael Rael and Assistant Coach Justin Martinez for a job well done, taking this young team and competing with the top of 2A basketball and giving their all. It was a great season and we are all looking forward to a bright future in Wildcat country.
