The Questa Wildcats Boys basketball reached the midway point of the season with a 3-12 record. For a Wildcats team in the midst of a rebuild, with first year head coach Mike Rael at the helm, their record does not tell the full tale of their season up to this point.

Questa opened their season on the road in early December with a win over former 2A District 5 rival, Coronado 33-31.

After losses to Springer, Legacy Academy and Centennial, the Wildcats hosted Coronado for their second game of the season. The Wildcats beat the Leopards 46-39, in that game, for their second win of the season.

The Wildcats then made an appearance at the Dual Cities Tournament, hosted by the Santa Rosa Lions. Questa lost to district-rivals Mora in the first game and to the Cimarron Rams in the next game. The Wildcats then got their third win of the season over the Monte Del Sol Charter Dragons, 33-26.
For a team that won only two games last season, including one by forfeit, the Wildcats had a record of 3-5 after their first eight games this season.

Throughout this season, the Wildcats have relied heavily on their Seniors Antonio Romero, Martin Rivera, Nathaniel Rael and Estaban Gomez for the bulk of the team’s scoring output.

The Wildcats then began January with a rough stretch of games at the Northern Rio Grande Tournament. Questa opened the tourney with a loss against the perennial powerhouse Pecos Panthers, followed by a loss to fellow 2A District 5 team Penasco and a loss to the Dulce Hawks.

Questa hosted another outstanding team, the Cimarron Rams, the following week, which ended with a big win for Cimarron. The Wildcats then hit the road to face the Clayton Yellowjacket on Saturday, January 20th, which was their last non-district game of the season. Clayton won the game 65-31.

Questa opens district play on Tuesday, January 23rd, at home against the McCurdy Bobcats. Here is the remaining 2023-24 schedule for the Wildcats:
