Rio Grande Motorsports Expands With Youth-Led Rental Business

A family-owned powersports dealership is expanding its offerings with the help of the next generation.
Juan Cisneros, owner of Rio Grande Motorsports, said he and his wife, Ayla, have spent the past decade building the dealership into a full-service destination for powersports enthusiasts. Now, two of their children are leading the launch of a new rental division.

The new venture, Rio Grande Motorsports Rentals, will allow customers to reserve premium side-by-side vehicles online, select their trip and pay in advance before picking up their rental at the company’s Taos location.
“We’re excited about this new business aspect,” Cisneros said.

Rio Grande Motorsports is a dealer for Can-Am and CFMOTO vehicles and also sells TYM tractors and SSR dirt bikes. The dealership provides retail sales and service for the brands it carries, along with maintenance on a variety of other powersports vehicles.

Cisneros said business has been strong, creating an opportunity to expand into rentals.

The rental fleet will feature high-end side-by-side vehicles equipped with premium amenities, including Apple CarPlay, heating, power windows and other upgraded features. Rental prices will start at $250 for a four-hour trip, with seven-hour and multi-day options also available.

Customers will be required to present a valid driver’s license and will have the option to purchase insurance coverage.

The new rental operation is being spearheaded by the couple’s children, Juan “Boom” Cisneros, 17, who will be a Questa high school senior this fall, and Alya “Lala” Cisneros, 15, who will be a sophomore.

Boom is working toward becoming a certified technician this summer, while Lala has taken the lead on developing the rental website and managing much of the business’s digital presence.

“They’ve both been learning a lot on the back end,” Cisneros said.

While their parents will continue to provide guidance, Cisneros said the teenagers have demonstrated efficiency and enthusiasm as they help grow the family’s business into its next chapter. For more information on the business, visit https://www.riograndemotorsports.com.
