Questeños know Ed Sandoval as the talented — and generous — Taos artist who painted Questa’s St. Anthony’s Church, and donated the image of the church to use as a fundraiser. At an initial event, held in April, the artist was available to sign the prints. Additional prints, notecards and coffee cups featuring the image of St. Anthony’s Church can be purchased at Rael’s Store & Coffee Shop. Money raised goes to St. Anthony’s Parish to help with maintenance of the historic church.

More recently, Sandoval was brought to national prominence when one of his paintings, “Changing of the Seasons” was featured on the September/October cover of the famed Saturday Evening Post. The historic magazine has a tradition of featuring prominent American artists on their covers, including such greats as Norman Rockwell and Andrew Wyeth. It was first published in Philadelphia in 1821 at the same printing press that Benjamin Franklin started.

The Post quoted “this month’s cover artist,” Ed Sandoval, who stated that “New Mexico is timeless and sacred — our landscapes and skies are a symphony of color, and our people live contented lives in weathered adobe homes while keeping their centuries-old culture and traditions alive,” and added he views his paintings as visual stories that “preserve the way of life of hard-working people like my grandparents.”
