The Blue Trophy Came Back to the Q!

By Maria Medina and Angel Medina

Questa Wildcat Cheer has done it again! For the third time, Questa Cheer has taken first place at State Spirit Championships and made Questa proud!

The team is made up of three seniors, three juniors, two freshmen, and six 8th-graders on the team.
QHS Wildcat Cheer has been through many obstacles this season, such as COVID-19, quarantine, and multiple sports injuries, to name a few. But, through all this, they came back stronger and were a force to be reckoned with.

This season the team competed in two competitions, one in Albuquerque at the Spirit of Hope Competition, where they placed second, and one in Bernalillo at the Spirit Xpress West Competition, where they came in fifth. In both competitions they competed against AAA, AAAA, , and AAAAA schools, which are much larger than QHS.

As coaches, Maria Medina and Angel Medina encouraged the team to go out and give it their all. Not only in athletics, but in academics as well. This season the team had a combined GPA of 3.65!
The team competed at the 2022 State Spirit Competition where they performed two different routines, “Game Day” and “Cheer with Music.” Both routines were judged on difficulty, crowd interaction, and cleanliness. At the end of their performances, QHS Wildcat Cheer came out on top with a total score of 170.54.

Questa Cheer and their coaches would like to thank our family and friends, Questa Independent Schools, the community of Questa, and 365 Spirit. This wouldn’t have been possible without their support and encouragement.

[Editor’s note: Thank you to prize-winning leadership: Coach Maria Medina and Assistant Coach Angel Medina!]
