For Stephanie Gallegos, opening her own salon in her hometown was more than a career move — it was a way to give back to the community that raised her.
Gallegos, owner of Eternal Cuts, opened her shop in the Questa shopping mall next to Best Care Pharmacy in 2022. The salon offers a wide range of services including cuts, fades, coloring, highlights, perms, hair treatments, facials, waxing, styling, manicures, pedicures and dip and gel polish.
Born and raised in Questa, Gallegos comes from a family of generational Questeños. She spent time in Uvalde, Texas, where she earned her cosmetology license before returning home to open her shop.
“I know first-hand how sometimes it’s just difficult to travel to get services done,” Gallegos said. “There are limitations, like if your car is broken down or if you just can’t make it out, so being able to offer these services right in Questa gives people access, and I am proud to be able to do that.”
Her commitment to the community goes beyond affordable pricing. Each year, Gallegos offers free haircuts for kids returning to school in the fall and again after winter break. This year, 22 children received free back-to-school haircuts. She also gave away two pedicures to local teachers through a teacher drawing.
“I got a lot of response from local community members,” Gallegos said. “It was really heartwarming to see the gratitude and excitement for kids, both boys and girls, getting free haircuts. The kids get excited, and they ask me to do designs. They really appreciated it.”
Gallegos said her giveaways are a way of saying thank you.
“I do this because the community has been good to me,” she said. “I get good business so I can afford to give. This is my way of giving back to tell our community thank you while also ensuring kiddos have fresh haircuts for their first day back.”
In addition to running Eternal Cuts, Gallegos also works at the VA as a caretaker. She recently adjusted her salon hours to 2-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday to work with her new clientele at the VA.
