Start Growing Younger by Watching Your Thoughts
The most powerful, and often most challenging, habit in my grow-younger program is this: change your thought patterns. No matter what else you do to feel youthful, it won’t last unless your mindset vibrates with vitality.
Studies have shown that muscles weaken when we think negatively and strengthen when we focus on something positive. Why? Because at the subatomic level, your body is energy. The frequency of your thoughts sends signals to every cell.
Positive thoughts strengthen; negative ones weaken. By observing your thoughts, you can catch negativity and consciously shift toward positivity—reprogramming your body toward youthfulness.
You might think you can’t control your thoughts, but you absolutely can. It starts with awareness. Most of us run on autopilot, repeating beliefs like: “We’re born, grow old, deteriorate, and die.” But what if you suspended that belief and opened to the possibility of youthfulness at any age? You get to choose what you believe—and that choice matters more than you might think.
I’m not suggesting life will be challenge-free. In fact, the best wines come from grapes that struggle to thrive—grown in stressed soils and barely warm climates. Our excellence, like fine wine, is born from adversity. The same principle applies to us: challenges shape us, refine us, and help us grow stronger.
While challenges are inevitable, your perspective can shift. What you focus on shapes your thoughts, and your thoughts shape your vibration. Are you stuck in a poor-me attitude? Victim thinking contributes to degeneration. But thoughts of thriving and gratitude invite growth, expansion, and vitality.
It’s easy to stay positive when helping a friend or making a promise to yourself. But in the heat of a challenge, old, fear-based habits can sneak back in. So how do we prepare?
Start small. Practice observing your thoughts during calm moments. A simple trick is to place a sticky note on your kitchen counter that says, “What am I thinking right now?” Each time you see it, pause and check in with your mind. Are your thoughts uplifting or draining? Move the note to a new spot each week so your brain doesn’t tune it out. You can even place similar reminders in your car, on your bathroom mirror, or near your computer—anywhere you’ll see them often.
The simple act of watching your thoughts, without judgment, can shift everything. It’s not about silencing the mind, but gently redirecting it toward clarity, peace, and vitality. That’s why a sticky note on the kitchen counter that reads “What am I thinking right now?” isn’t just a reminder—it’s a doorway. Each glance at it invites you back to awareness, back to choice, back to the present moment where transformation begins.
