Questa FFA Travels to State Contest in Albuquerque

On October 26, 2023, middle school Future Farmers of America (FFA) members Jolene Segura, Allison Segura, Kacie Chapman, and Jessica Jackson traveled with their advisors, Mrs. Adams and Deyhle Adkins, to Farmington for district contests.

The four girls competed in the quiz contest and the creed speech. For that competition, the group had a successful trip and as a team, they placed First Place in the quiz contest (a 100-question quiz that includes questions about FFA and agriculture issues). In the quiz contest, Jessica Jackson placed first, Allison Segura placed second, and Jolene Segura placed third. In the Creed speech contest: a contest in which students memorize the 5-paragraph FFA Creed, present it to a panel of judges and answer questions related to the creed. Allison Segura placed First, Kacie Chapman placed third, and Jessica Jackson placed fourth.

The top three participants in each contest went on to compete at the state level last month in Albuquerque. The middle school FFA state contest was held in conjunction with the Leadership Conference from February 9-11. At state, the quiz contest is much like a jeopardy game in which students have to not only know the answers to the questions but be quick to the buzzer. Questa made it to the semi-finals but eventually fell to the Ft. Sumpter state champions.

Kacie Chapman and Allison Segura did their best performances of the year in the Creed speech contest but did not make the top 5 in the state.

Once the contests were complete, Questa FFA middle school members joined 740 other FFA members from across the state in the Leadership Conference. Members participate in workshops that encourage leadership and team-building activities.

Questa FFA is glad to be back in the district and looks forward to building the program and seeing just how far we can go as an organization.
