Questa Fire and EMS announced on social media the addition of a new water tender for fire and emergent response. The new tender added to the department’s fleet of emergency vehicles will be called Tender 1. Funding for obtaining the new vehicle included a grant award from the New Mexico Fire Grant Council for $300,000, $30,000 from Chevron Mine, and additional Village general-fund dollars.
County Fire Chief Mike Cordova, Jr. assisted in supporting and ensuring the department was able to receive the funds needed to add Tender 1 to its fleet. On Feb. 16, Tender 1 was placed into service. The new tender will carry up to 5,000 gallons of water to respond to a structure fire.
The department extended its gratitude to Chief Cordova, Questa Village Clerk Valerie Vigil, Finance Director and Village Administrator Karen Quintana-Shannon, Questa Mayor Ortega, and Questa Village Council for their support in increasing the response capabilities for the Village of Questa.
