The Questa Ladycats basketball team has started the 2023-24 season off well and were in second place of Class 2A District 5, behind the Mesa Vista Lady Trojans, at the time of this publication.
In December, the Ladycats started 3-1, with wins over Coronado, Santa Rosa and Tularosa. In their next four games, the Questa girls team went 3-1 again, with wins over Centennial (San Luis, CO), Legacy Academy (Albuquerque) and Rehoboth Christian (Rehoboth).
To begin January, the Ladycats went 3-1 again, with wins over fellow District 5 teams McCurdy and Escalante at the Northern Rio Grande Tournament in Espanola. Questa then beat Springer in their next game before a loss to Dulce on Saturday, January 13th.
Questa’s Girls basketball team is led by their outstanding Sophomore Shooting Guard Alyse Lovato leads the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game, and with 8.3 rebounds per game. Lovato also shoots 37% from the field. Junior Point Guard Kamryn Cardenas leads the team with 4.0 assists per game and averages 8.6 points per game. Junior Forward Aliyah Santistevan is an outstanding scorer, averaging 9.8 points per game for the Ladycats.
The Ladycats got a win over Cimarron at home in Questa on Wednesday, January 17th, 46-28.
Questa’s most recent game was on January 20th in Clayton. The Lady Yellowjackets won, 58-48. After the loss, the Ladycats had a 10-5 record on the season.
The Ladycats will begin their official district portion of the schedule on Tuesday, January 23rd, at home against the McCurdy Lady Bobcats. They play one more non-district game against Des Moines also. Here is the Questa Ladycats remaining regular-season schedule for the 2023-2024 season:
