Car show rolls into Red River June 3

This ’50s-themed event features music, games, contests, car parades down Main Street, and cash and prizes for car show participants. For the first time, this year’s show will be at the municipal parking lot next to Brandenburg Park.

“We’re going to try to preserve the grass in Brandenburg Park,” noted Shena Cannon, Town of Red River Tourism and Economic Development Office | Event Coordinator.

Cannon said a DJ will “spin” ’50s-style music with a “sock hop”, there will be food vendors during show hours, plus family-friendly activities like a “face painting, a hula hoop contest, corn hole, and a pin-up-girl contest.”

Car show entry fees are $40 for the 1st car, $35 for a 2nd car. Same-day registration is $50. Award categories are: Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Engine, Best Mustang, Best Camaro/ Firebird, Best Corvette, Best Convertible, Best Low Rider, Best Stock/Original, Best Rat Rod, Early Truck (Pre-49), Classic Truck (49-72), Street Truck (73-96), Late Model Truck (97-Present), Street Rod (Pre-49), Classic Custom (49-63), Muscle Car (64-74), Street Machine (75-96), Late Model (97-present), Best Ford, Best GM, and Best Import.
Applications can be found at redriver.org. Send registration forms to scannon@redriver.org no later than 4 pm, June 2. For more information, contact Shena Cannon at 575-754-1708.

The same weekend, June 2-4, visitors may spot more than a few “Yard Sale” signs around town. Early June is the traditional time for the town’s annual town-wide yard sale, during which businesses and locals get rid of their excess stuff. Locals can publicize their location by contacting Sydney Von Strohe, Visitor Services Coordinator, at (575)-754-1708.
