VOLLEYBALL:

The Ladycats JV team put on a dynamite performance Sept. 6 against the Cimarron Lady Rams. The Ladycats took the first set handily with a score of 13–25, with Cimarron never taking the lead. Though the Lady Rams fought harder through the second set, scoring first and even taking the lead for a moment at 11–10, the JV Ladycats came roaring back to finish the second set 16–25 and win the game, 0–3.
The varsity squad was not as lucky, but played a convincing game nonetheless. The Ladycats smashed through Cimarron’s defenses in the first set, winning 14–25. But, over the next three sets, the Lady Rams were able to edge out the hard-fighting Cats, 25–20, 24–26 and 25–21 for a final of 3 sets to 1. Kiara Arellano had a stand out performance with 24 digs and 28 receptions, as did Jordyn Martinez with 29 kills. Alyana León had an unbelievable 63 assists (national player avg. of 23 per game).

FOOTBALL:

The Wildcat’s single home game for October against Dulce High School was a beauty! Cat’s Freshman kick returner Noah Rael scored on the opening kickoff to put the Dulce Hawks on the heels from the start. The Hawks responded quickly though, marching down field once and capitalizing on a Wildcat fumble before Questa could respond with their own touchdown (Martin Rivera, Junior) and 2-pt conversion (Carlos Ortega, Sophomore) to go ahead 12–14. Dulce put up another TD to end the 1st quarter 18–14. It would be their last lead of the game.

Already into Hawks’ territory before the 2nd quarter, Freshman Adam Gordon’s quick touchdown gave the Wildcat’s the lead they would keep the rest of the game. Quarterback Dawson Breen, Senior, kept the Hawks defense guessing, putting up 72 rushing yards himself over the last 3 quarters.
In the end, the Hawks had to face their first of two defeats by the Cats in a three week span. Final: Dulce 30, Questa 62.

SOCCER:

As of Sept. 22, Questa has played four home games but have had trouble finding their stride in Wildcat’s Stadium.

The Wildcats had back-to-back home matches on Sept. 7 and 8. In the first against East Mountain High School saw the Cats lose 1-2. Questa Junior Nathanial Rael scored Questa’s lone goal in the 22nd minute.
The next day against Taos JV, Nathaniel Rael scored a banger at 38 minutes to put the Cats ahead. The Tigers responded in kind in the 47th to open the second half. Though the Wildcats held the Tigers off through the second half, they were not able to find the back of the net either. Final Questa 1 – Taos 1.
Academy for Technology and the Classics of Santa Fe visited Questa on Sept 13. The Wildcat’s played solid ball, but did not pull out the W. Freshman Alyse Lovato scored at 55 minutes to keep the Cats in the game, but ATC went on to win 1 – 3.

Big Blue played Monte Del Vista of Santa Fe on Sept. 22nd after a long rain delay. The visitors opened the scoring in the 3rd minute and never let up. The Cats lost 10 – 0 to finish their month at home 0W-1D-3L.
