Yoga Sala is a moving arts studio in Questa and home to the nonprofit program, Sala Reach. All classes, events and workshops are created with this intention: to support a culture of health.
In 2023, a 12-class Wellness Series, one per month, will focus on whole health and draw on community expertise. Encouraging and supporting individual wellness in the broadest sense, and building up personal capacity underpins our resilience. The series is intended to help individuals build a personal toolbox that supports their whole health. Importantly, the series will be led by community members for community members; we intend to highlight the value of local knowledge and skill-sharing.
The topics of our 12-class series include nutrition in local traditional foods, food producing and processing, preserving, art-making using natural pigments (locally sourced clay and plant dyes), and digital and financial literacy. The class facilitators live in, and therefore value investing time in, our dispersed community. Facilitators include community members who run the local credit union, or own local businesses, or, for example, have expertise such as growing microgreens, building websites, or pickling and fermenting.
This series will be directed to adults, but is also open to younger community members who wish to join.
Kick-off for the series: The Benefits of RAW Juice! Jennifer Fisher, former juice-bar owner and 10 year raw food veteran, will share her passion of juicing with YOU. She’ll be doing a juicing demonstration, sharing samples, and answering questions at the Sala Saturday, Jan. 21, noon to 1:30 pm. For more details and to RSVP go to yogasalaquesta.org/wellness-series/ or call (575) 224-2102.
The Sala hosts weekly classes including, yoga, qigong, tai chi, kickboxing, and kids ballet, as well as special events and workshops. Our nonprofit creates equitable access to assure that all offerings can be attended by all community members and some of the classes are free.
Our mission is to cultivate a diverse community of learners, moving arts teachers, performers, and audiences from rural northern New Mexico and make dance, yoga, martial arts and opportunities for creative expression and experience accessible for all ages and abilities promoting health and connection.
Sala Reach is a program of Localogy, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. In addition to offering weekly classes freely to the community, we collaborate with local organizations such as Questa Creative Council, LEAP, Twirl, and Vida del Norte Coalition’s Summer Vida Camp.
Our outreach effort is intended to support and engage:
- All youth
- People seeking moving arts for recovery support, no questions asked
- People coping with post traumatic stress
- People coping with addiction in their family
- Veterans and their family members
- Law enforcement officers and first responders
- Anyone experiencing any financial need
Our nonprofit, Sala Reach is supported by donations from the community as well as funding through grants. Current funding from the LANL Foundation and the Taos Community Foundation helps provide for several weekly classes (e.g. Kids’ Ballet) and monthly special events. In 2022 Sala Reach collaborated with the Questa Creative Council to bring two Chamber Music events (spring and fall), and Cristina Masoliver’s Teatro Vagabundo puppet show to Questa twice, including a July show for the Vida Summer Camp participants.
