PRECESSION OF THE EQUINOXES

“The leading end of physics is catching up to the tail end of metaphysics.” —Dean Radin

Mid-March, the Sun leaves the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces and begins a new cycle in the sign of Aries. This transition is also called the Spring Equinox on this side of the world, the Fall Equinox down under. We live on a unique little ball. Not only does the Earth spin and tilt; its spin is like a wobbly top because it is not perfectly round. Right now, the north pole points to the north star, Polaris, but that hasn’t always happened, nor will it remain so in the future. This means a gradual shift in the orientation of Earth’s axis of rotation in a cycle of approximately 25,800 (or so) years (2150 years per zodiacal sign which is where our Ages come from). This results in what we call the Precession of the Equinoxes. This is one of the most contentious points between present-day astrologers and astronomers because the Spring equinox is very gradually moving backward through the constellations, but not through the signs.

Ages ago, when the characteristics and descriptions of each sign were being put down on “paper,” (clay, stone, papyrus) the constellation of Aries truly was the constellation coming up over the horizon at the time of the spring equinox. But once the “signs” were set in their circle of 12, each one 30 degrees long—which of course does not apply to the constellations—the association with the constellations lessened. The Greeks were well aware of the precession of the equinoxes; however, as their system of astrology was based on the seasonal cycles, it did not concern them. Our esoteric scientists have checked out the continuing validity of the system and insist that it still works. The vibration of the system and how it affects us continues and so, we don’t even try to deny the precession; we believe that the metaphysical complements the physical science and that astrology still works.
