ASTROLOGY: November 2023

FEELING STUBBORN?!

This month we have a strong opposition which doesn’t always exist as strongly as now. Uranus, which lives in a sign approximately seven years, has been in the sign of Taurus since March of 2019, while Jupiter, who typically lives in a sign for about a year, also shifted into Taurus beginning in May of this year. Earth joined these two on October 24, creating a strong Taurean faction on one side of our heavenly chart while Sun, Vulcan, Mercury, and Mars are all in the sign of Scorpio on the opposite side. Since these latter are always close to each other, it’s not unusual for them to be in the same sign, but this opposition with our farther out, slower-moving planets, is. And just to set the teeter totter teetering, we end October with the fickle Full Moon, also in Taurus, leaving the Taurean cluster and by mid-month swooping around our skies to instead lend its weight to the Scorpion cluster for New Moon.

Oppositions are very important in astrology as each can serve as an example to the other of where you are going as well as where you have been. They actually have a lot in common, but like any oppositional relationship, they don’t always get the compatibility as quickly as they get the opposites bit. As we know, oppositions can both attract and make sparks fly. In esoteric astrology, oppositions are not necessarily considered challenges, but rather strengtheners, like a tug-of-war. Both sides build muscle, lung power, and stamina which can feel both stressful and beneficial. If one side drops the rope everyone falls down. In this case, both signs are fixed, a quality which means loyal, reliable but can also mean stubborn; heels digging furrows kind of stubborn. So, while we may all experience a sense of being pulled in directions we think we don’t want to go, especially if you have strong Scorpio and/or Taurus in your chart, it is also time to look to that other side tugging on our stubborn strings and determine what it is they can teach us, and what it is we can offer them.
