Sometimes parents cannot care for their children, and that duty falls to their grandparents. According to the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, up to 72% of children raised by grandparents have been exposed to at least one adverse event, such as death of a parent, incarceration, substance abuse, domestic violence—another reason it may not be a walk in the park for both. Census Bureau data reveal that the number of custodial grandparents is continuing to rise.
