Is your life delightful?
Do you enjoy getting out of bed in the morning? Yes? Aha! It must be because you have some aspects of deep creativity you’re expressing. If you’re not being creative, then chances are you’re not as happy as you could be.
Everyone has creative energy, and it needs to be released – it needs to move! What you do to express yourself creatively doesn’t matter. It could be art, music, writing, theater, fine cuisine, gardening, volunteer work or some other creative endeavor. Nor does the quality matter. Releasing that energy into what you want to do makes you feel delight and excitement.
For me, it’s writing and painting. I dabbled at painting in my 20s but stopped because raising four kids became my primary calling. Then, almost two years ago, I had a strong urge to paint, so I bought some art supplies and voila! I’m loving it. I took my father’s middle name, Maruška, for my paintings and even developed a unique style: imbedding images in the five basic shapes of Sacred Geometry – spiral, straight line, square, circle and triangle. Sacred Geometry is not my only style but it’s my favorite.
Last year in August I displayed my work at the Questa Studio Art Tour (QSAT) at Maria Mikhailas’s “Oasis of Lorien” hub in El Rito. This year my Star House will also be a hub and my daughter, Harper Wood, who is a classical artist, will show her work there as well. It’s called the Star House because my late architect husband designed it as an 8-pointed star with big windows that have a commanding view of the magnificent mountains and breathtaking sunsets. As you come down my driveway and turn at the bend, you’ll see my life-size cow, which I’ve painted numerous times.
Peggy Trigg has spearheaded the QSAT committee and this year’s QSAT features up to 50 artists and craftspeople at 18 hubs. Get a brochure at the Questa Visitors Center for this two-day event: Saturday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m.– 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. Please put it on your calendar now. There are paintings galore, plus jewelry, stained glass, wooden cutting boards, newly built furniture, old furniture brought to life, sculpture, weavings, leather goods, quilts, antlers and gourds turned into art, pottery, folk art, realistic and abstract drawings and paintings, intricate beadwork, crocheted stuffed animals, botanical art and art glass.
The Questa Studio Art Tour is a feast for the eyes, including St. Anthony’s historic church and plaza, which dates back to the 1840s and was recently completely renovated by the Questa community. Come join us. For more information, please see pages 16–17.
¿Es la vida deleitosa?

¿Se disfruta de levantarse de la cama en la mañana? ¿Sí? Aha! Tal vez es porque tienes unos aspectos de creatividad profunda que estás expresando. Si no estás dejando salir la creatividad, hay chanza que no estés tan feliz como pudieras ser.
Todos tienen energía creativa, que necesita de salir– necesita mover. Lo que haces para expresar la creatividad realmente no importa. Podrá ser arte, música, escritura, teatro, la comida fina, trabajar en el jardín, dar su tiempo ayudando a otro o cualquier otra cosa. Ni la cualidad importa. Dejar salir la energía en lo que quieres te hacer sentir deleito y entusiasmo.
Para mí, es pintar y escribir. Traté mi mano en la pintura en los años de mis veintes pero, paré de hacerlo porque criar cuatro hijos fue mi gran llamada. Luego casi hace dos años, tuve ese deseo fuerte para pintar, entonces compré la cosas necesarias y voila… Estoy amándolo. Tomé el medio nombre de mi padre, Maruška, para mis trabajos de arte y hasta desarrollé mi propio estilo único: incorporando imágenes en las formas básica de la geometría sagrada—espiral, línea derecha, cuadro, circulo, y triangulo. Geometría sagrada no es mi solo estilo, pero es mi favorito.
El año pasado mostré mi trabajo en el Questa Studio Art Tour en el centro de Maria Mikhaila en El Rito llamado Oasis of Lorien. Este año mi casa de Estrella “Star House” también será un centro y mi hija, Harper Wood, quien es artista clásica, mostrará sus trabajaos allí también.
La casa es llamada Casa de Estrella porque mi esposo fallecido fue arquitecto y lo desiñó como una estrella de ocho puntos con ventanas grandes que tienen una vista magnífica de las montañas y las puestas de sol. Cuando llegas a mi entrada y doblas en la vuelta, puedes ver mi vaca de imagen viva, Elsie, que he pintado varias veces.
